Our own Steve Harris wrote a large portion of this one-hour television documentary special produced for, and in conjunction with, the Assemblies of God. One part of the script called for a re-creation of a Biblical scene from the Book of Acts where we are told, "...a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them." In order to accomplish this, a custom set was designed and built and the basic scene was shot on 35mm motion picture film by The Mahoney Media Group in Minnesota. The scene, without effects, was then edited by Kevin Vosecky at Creative Edge Communications. Individual frames of film were digitized and captured to hard disk. The characteristics of the "tongues of fire" (including interaction with the live scene elements such as windows, furniture, people, etc.) were then plotted out and digitally composited with the original footage. The spectacular results (though not quite as impressive as the real thing 2000 years ago) got the point across to a modern-day TV audience. As Kevin worked on the project, he couldn't help noticing the irony. His mother had always told him not to play with fire. |
